TCM practitioners believe the human body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, "chee") through the body. Disruption of Qi can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to specific points, it will improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health.
insertion of fine needles at acupuncture points to treat various health conditions
combination of acupressure massage and joint manipulation to treat musculoskeletal and internal conditions
local suction at acupuncture points to loosen tighten muscles and promote blood flow
Acupuncture is performed using disposable hair-thin needles. Most people report feeling minimal pain as the needle is inserted. The needle is inserted to a point that produces a sensation of pressure or mild ache. Then the needle may be adjusted through gentle and specific movements of the practitioner's hands or with electrical stimulation for various therapuetic goals.
Cupping therapy involves the use of cups to create suction on your skin. This suction stimulates muscle and fascia tissue, increases blood flow, and helps relieve tension. The areas of your skin where the cups were placed will have red marks that range from light pink to deep red depending on the amount of negative pressure that was applied. The marks usually go way within several days of the session.
