If you're considering an initial Chiropody assesment at Procare Pain Clinic, here's what you can expect during your appointment:

Consultation and Assessment

Your first visit will begin with a consultation and assessment. Our CHIROPODIST will discuss your medical history, any foot concerns or symptoms you may have, and your goals for the session. They will perform a thorough examination of your feet, checking for any abnormalities or areas of concern.

Treatment Plan and Techniques

Based on the assessment, our CHIROPODIST will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. During the treatment session, you may receive general foot care (toenail cutting, callus debridement, etc.), padding or strapping application, footwear recommendation, ultrasound and many more. You may also be prescribed with topical/oral medications and/or medical devices depending on your foot condition.

Duration and Frequency of Sessions

The duration and frequency of treatments may vary depending on your individual needs and goals. Our CHIROPODIST will discuss the recommended treatment plan with you, including the number of sessions and the interval between each session. Regular sessions may be necessary to achieve optimal results and maintain foot health.

When it comes to foot care, you may have come across the terms Chiropody and Podiatry. While these terms are often used interchangeably, there are some differences between the two. 

Definition and Scope of Chiropody

Chiropodists, or Foot Specialists, are healthcare professionals who specialize  in the assessment and treatment of lower limb disorders. They are trained to provide a wide range of foot care services, including foot assessments, nail care, prescription, injection into feet, soft tissue surgery, wound management, and orthotic therapy.

Definition and Scope of Podiatry

Podiatry is another term used to describe the study and treatment of lower limb disorders. In some countries, such as the United States, the term Podiatry is more commonly used. Podiatrists, like CHIROPODISTS, are healthcare professionals who specialize in  treating various foot conditions, performing foot surgery, and prescribing medication.

Choosing Between Chiropody and Podiatry

The simple answer is that all practitioners registered in Ontario after July 31st, 1993 are registered under the title Chiropodist. Therefore, there haven't been any new registrants with the title Podiatrist in Ontario for over 30 years. Both professions (Chiropodists and Podiatrists) are regulated by the College of Chiropodists of Ontario.
